UCL BSc student Tiffene Larose on her summer internship and final year project with the Sumner Lab
I joined the Sumner lab in the summer of 2023 doing a research internship with Owen Corbett, exploring physical traits of of paper wasps (Polistes lanio) and how they may link to life history and social hierarchies. Following this placement, I completed my own BSc research project under the supervision of Prof. Seirian Sumner and Owen Corbett. My project utilised automated tracking of Polistes wasps on the nest, investigating the feasibility of TRex tracking software to extract tracking data from videos of wild nests taken in the field, and exploring the kinds of biologically-relevant data we can obtain from such automated tracking methods.
Working with the Sumner lab and CBER has been such a great experience and I have learnt so much from the researchers at the lab.
Tiffene has since graduated from her BSc in Biological Sciences with First Class Honours.
